— The BEAM lab collaborated in the publication of the first review of Panthera pardus during the Pleistocene in the Pyrenees
Pere Gelabert is a co-author of a recent paper published in Quaternary Science Reviews, which fills a critical gap in the published record of Panthera pardus during the Pleistocene. The study presents the first comprehensive review of leopard fossils in the Pyrenees, revealing a progressive increase in both the number of fossil occurrences and body mass throughout the Pleistocene. Notably, the results also indicate a reduced sexual dimorphism in Pleistocene leopards compared to modern populations.

— New Paper on ancient Plasmodium DNA!
PhD student Michelle Haemmerle has led together with Alejandro Llnos-Lizcano the discovery and study of P. falciparum genomics from roman teeth.
The paper published in Scientific Reports (https://www.nature.com/articles/s41598-024-85038-z) shows high diversity in the recovery of P. falciparum between dental pieces of infected individuals suggesting denser samplings when trying to recover the pathogen.
